Pastor Jonathan Clarke

Minister

I've partnered with Friends of Malton on several events and I'm always impressed by their Christ-centered excellence. They don't just talk about holistic care--they live it. Every program is bathed in prayer, executed with integrity, and treats every person with God-given dignity.

Margaret Thompson

Community Elder

When I lost my husband, I thought my fellowship days were over. Friends of Malton found me, visited me, and reminded me I still belong to a family. This ministry didn't just bring meals--they brought hope and showed me God's faithfulness through loving hands.

Mr. Winston Campbell

Retired Leader

For forty years I've called Malton home. I've watched this community change, but one thing remains constant--the faithful service of those who filled 7050 Bramalea Road. Friends of Malton carries that same spirit today. They honor elders, mentor youth, and serve with shepherd hearts.

Paulette Richards

Mom of one

I was at my lowest--struggling to feed my children and feeling abandoned. Friends of Malton gave me more than a food bank referral. They followed up, prayed with me, and reminded me that God sees my family. Their compassion restored my hope when I needed it most.

Keisha Brown

Youth Leader

Growing up, Malton Church of God was my second home. When the building closed, my heart broke. Then I found Friends of Malton and realized the church isn't a building--it's the people. This legacy lives on, and I'm proud to be part of this family.

Bro. Anthony Reid

Prayer Ministry

The prayer gatherings have been my lifeline during difficult seasons. There's power when believers intercede together for this community. I've witnessed breakthroughs, healing, and restored relationships through these circles. God is moving mightily through this ministry and answering our collective prayers.

Lisa-Marie Johnson

Event Volunteer

I started volunteering last year and it's been one of my most rewarding experiences. Whether setting up dinners or visiting seniors, I see Christ's love in action every time. This isn't just volunteering--it's fellowship and family, and it's transformed how I view service.

Our Journey

Timeline of Milestones

1973

Launch Company

The story of the Malton Church of God began in 1973 with a vision and a prayer. Founded October 23, 1973 by Brother Beresford and Sister Sybil Sommerville just 4 months after immigrating to Canada. The small congregation first gathered in the basement of the Sommerville's home under the leadership of Senior Pastor Boucher and later, Pastor Malcolm.

1973

The Seed is Planted

Beresford and Sybil Somerville arrive in Canada on June 22, 1973. Just four months later, on October 23, they establish what would become the Malton Church of God — meeting in the basement of their own home for the first nine months.

1974

Officially Organized

The congregation is officially named the Malton Church of God under the Church of God organization. Services move from the Somerville home to Ridgewood Public School, giving the growing fellowship more room to worship.

1977

New Leadership. New Home.

1977 saw the addition of a Young Pastor Huel O. Wilson and his wife Clementina Wilson. Fresh out of his studies and having completed an apprenticeship at the Agincourt Church of God (under the leadership of Bishop Dalton Fraser) The Wilson's were assigned to Malton by the Church of God in Canada. The congregation migrated to the halls of Darcel Public School.

1977

A New Chapter Begins

A young Pastor Huel O. Wilson and his wife Clementina Wilson are assigned to Malton, fresh from his apprenticeship at the Agincourt Church of God under Bishop Dalton Fraser. The congregation migrates to the halls of Darcel Public School. Under Wilson's leadership, the church experiences extraordinary growth — soon running three buses to bring the community together for worship.

1990

A Sanctuary of Our Own

By 1990, the need for a permanent home became clear. Despite initial rejections from lenders, the church's unwavering resolve led to the purchase of 7050 Bramalea Road. What was once an industrial unit was transformed into a sacred sanctuary. The impact was immediate: the congregation doubled within a year, filling the building to capacity from the very first Sunday.

2000

New Leadership, Continued Legacy

In the year 2000, a new chapter began when Pastor Huel Wilson was appointed Administrative Bishop for the Church of God in Canada. The Malton Church of God continued its forward momentum under the new leadership of Dr. Canute Blake, who took over as Senior Pastor, further building upon the foundation of faith laid before him.

1980s

A Pillar of Faith

The Malton Church of God stands as a pillar of faith in the community. Hundreds of hearts are brought to the Lord, families are restored, new members flock to the ministry from outside of the town of Malton, and the church becomes a beacon of hope for the entire Malton community.

1990

A Brand New Home

After years of outgrowing every space they worshipped in, the congregation set their sights on 7050 Bramalea Road. They were told no — multiple times. Lenders rejected them. But the faith of the Malton Church of God could not be denied. Some members believed so deeply in the future of this ministry that they temporarily put their own homes up as collateral. Their sacrifice was rewarded: the industrial unit was transformed into a sacred sanctuary, and the congregation finally had a permanent home to call their own.

1990s

A Community Flourishes

The church expands into a second unit, becoming a hub for Sunday schools, food bank outreach, and youth programs. It hosts renowned evangelists like Maxine Johnson, W.A. Blair, and Joshua Kelly, and becomes one of the largest and most vibrant congregations in the fellowship, with chairs spilling into the hallways.

2000

New Leadership, Continued Legacy

Pastor Huel Wilson is appointed Administrative Bishop for the Church of God in Canada. Dr. Canute Blake takes over as Senior Pastor, further building upon the foundation of faith. The church continues its forward momentum, carrying the torch of ministry into a new era.

2010s

Malton Becomes New Life Covenant Centre

The building at 7050 Bramalea Road transitions to become the New Life Covenant Centre (NLCC). Though the name above the door changes, the legacy of worship, fellowship, and community service that defined the Malton Church of God continues to echo through its halls.

2023

Friends of Malton is Born

Fourteen devoted alumni of the Malton Church of God come together to form Friends of Malton — a Christian non-profit continuing the mission of service, fellowship, and hope that began over 50 years ago. Their first act: organizing the inaugural celebration event honoring Bishop Huel O. Wilson and First Lady Clementina Wilson.
