Food Bank Program
Ensuring no one in our community goes hungry by providing nourishing food and a helping hand with dignity
Welcome to Our Food Bank Ministry
Meeting Needs. Restoring Dignity. Connecting Community.
We believe that access to food is not a privilege — it's a basic human right and a matter of justice.
At Friends of Malton, our Food Bank Program is rooted in a simple biblical truth: “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat” (Matthew 25:35). We believe that feeding the hungry is not just charity — it is an act of worship, a reflection of God's heart for the vulnerable, and a tangible expression of love for our neighbors.
However, our approach is unique. Rather than operating a traditional food bank, Friends of Malton functions as a referral and navigation service. We are the bridge that connects families in crisis with the food resources best suited to their specific needs — whether that's proximity to their home, dietary restrictions, or cultural food preferences.
This is food security with dignity, compassion, and follow-through.
Referral & Navigation Services
We connect families to the right food bank based on their location, dietary needs, and specific circumstances. We don't just give a name and address — we provide a warm hand-off and follow-up support.
Emergency Crisis Support
In urgent cases, we provide emergency grocery cards or transportation assistance to ensure families can access the food they need when they need it most.

Food Security with Dignity

We Fight Food Insecurity Together
We Believe that We can Eliminate Hunger with You
Through strategic partnerships and compassionate navigation, we ensure no family goes without food.
Daily Navigation Services
Our digital and telephone helplines are active 7 days a week. When a family calls or messages us in crisis, we respond quickly with clear direction to the nearest food bank, along with information about hours, required documentation, and what to expect.
Personalized Referrals
Not all food banks are the same. We take into account your location, dietary restrictions (halal, kosher, allergies), cultural food preferences, and family size to connect you with the best fit. We treat every referral with care and dignity.
Follow-Up Support
We don't just refer and forget. After connecting a family to a food bank, we follow up to ensure their needs were met, ask if they require additional support, and offer prayer or connection to our other ministry pillars (spiritual, social, or business resources).
Emergency Assistance
In cases where a family cannot physically reach a food bank or has an urgent need, our donations fund occasional emergency grocery cards or transportation support to bridge the gap and ensure no one goes hungry.
Our Unique Approach
Navigation Over Duplication — Building Bridges, Not Barriers
We don't compete with existing food banks — we strengthen the network by ensuring people find the right resource at the right time.
Malton and the surrounding areas are blessed to have several food banks operated by dedicated organizations. Friends of Malton does not seek to duplicate their efforts. Instead, we serve as a navigator and connector — ensuring that no family falls through the cracks because they didn't know where to go or how to access help.
Here's why our referral-based approach is effective:
We eliminate confusion and barriers
Many families in crisis don't know which food bank to contact, where they're located, or what documentation they need. We remove that confusion by providing clear, step-by-step guidance.
We provide personalized matches
Not every food bank serves every need. We take the time to understand a family's specific situation -- dietary needs, transportation limitations, cultural preferences -- and connect them to the food bank best equipped to serve them.
We ensure follow-through
Handing someone a list of food banks and wishing them luck isn't enough. We follow up to ensure they received help, and if they didn't, we work to solve the problem.
We offer holistic support
Food insecurity is often connected to other crises -- unemployment, housing instability, mental health struggles. By following up with families, we can connect them to our other ministry pillars to address root causes, not just symptoms.
We build partnerships, not silos
We collaborate with existing food banks, churches, and community organizations. By working together, we create a stronger safety net that ensures no one is overlooked.
Your Path to Food Security Support
How Our Food Bank Program Works
Reach Out to Us
If you or someone you know is facing food insecurity, reach out via phone (647-706-2640), email (friendsofmalton@gmail.com), or our website contact form. We are available 7 days a week to respond to requests.
We Assess Your Needs
We'll ask a few simple questions to understand your situation: where you're located, how many people are in your household, dietary restrictions or preferences, whether you have transportation, and any other needs we should be aware of.
We Connect You to the Right Food Bank
Based on your needs, we provide you with the name and address of the best food bank for your situation, their hours of operation, what documentation you'll need to bring, and directions and transportation options. If needed, we can also call ahead to let them know you're coming.
We Follow Up
Within a few days, we'll reach out to make sure you were able to access the food bank, your needs were met, and you don't require additional support. If there were any issues, we work to resolve them. If you need help beyond food, we connect you to our other ministry pillars.
Our Community Partners
Partner Food Banks & Resources

“When we feed the hungry, we are not just meeting a physical need — we are declaring that every person has inherent worth and dignity. We are reflecting the heart of a God who sees, provides, and cares deeply for His children.”
At Friends of Malton, our Food Bank Program is more than logistics and referrals — it's ministry. Every call answered, every referral made, and every follow-up completed is an act of love. We believe that no one in our community should go hungry, and we are committed to ensuring that every family knows where to turn when they need help.
